A sentient Ship with godlike powers (and aspirations) delivers the last survivors of humanity to a horrific, poisonous planet, Pandora—rife with deadly Nerve-Runners, Hooded Dashers, airborne jellyfish, and intelligent kelp. Chaplain/Psychiatrist Raja Lon Flattery is brought back out of hybernation to witness Ship’s machinations as well as the schemes of human scientists manipulating the genetic structure of humanity. Sequel to Frank Herbert’s Destination Void, the first book in Herbert & Ransom’s Pandora Sequence.
The Jesus Incident Pandora Sequence Book 1 eBook Frank Herbert Bill Ransom
Mostly well woven, at least. The 'voice' of this story is different than the proceeding Destination: Void, and logically so, having had two authors. The weave and continuity of the story were handled well, with minor instances where the 'voice' of the story shifted abruptly in short succession. Having read the afterward by Ransom, the explanation as to why becomes clear. This, in my opinion, does not detract from the overall story and while this book is longer than Destination: Void, it does not labor. However, both books are paced differently.
With one character linking the two books, Herbert and Ransom quickly distance themselves from having to follow the character's disposition that was created in Destination:Void. Some might scoff at the convenience of this, and while I kept hoping for more strength and presence from that character (in both books, however more so in this one) I was more than happy to walk where the authors led that character as well as the whole of the story in general.
If you find yourself annoyed when character's and plots don't conform to your preconceived notions, then you may struggle with parts of this book. While I didn't see any major plot twists, I did find it unpredictable and enjoyable.

The Jesus Incident Pandora Sequence Book 1 eBook Frank Herbert Bill Ransom Reviews
I think that Frank Herbert's other novels are overlooked by many because of his tour De-force Dune. This is a great story I'm sure many would love.
Twists and turns in Frank Herbert novels are always purposeful and fulfilling. This one is one of his better efforts even with a co-author it's classic Herbert.
Good book but though the plot was a little disjointed.
This is not Frank Herbert at his best (I don't think any of his collaborations with other authors work as well as his solo work) but, having said that, it still stands as a great read. Herbert was one of the masters of Science Fiction and, as successful and wonderful as the Dune series is, people should read wider. All of his novels are worth searching out.
Explore future history into the farthest reaches of space with this creative genius and creator of science fiction. This is one of his best novels ranking at or close to Dune.
Why I call it a hidden classic is because like a lot of science fiction it can be dated, but the concepts brought out in this story seem to be very viable today, and in a way, even more so. Just what are the consequences of human colonization? This book dives right in and shows what could happen, especially if your ride to that new planet is with a ship that has acheived sentience. After reading this I look forward to the other two books in the series, in fact I just finished The Lazerus Effect, but I am going to let that soak a little in my brain before I attempt a comment.
I have read most of Frank Herbert's books. This one I did not like! The plot is boring, at least to me. I stopped reading this book after 50 or so pages.
This was not turning out to be a continually developing story line.
